OUR HISTORY
In 1996, the Kassier family bought Highgate, then a small hydroponic farm in the misty KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Seeing a local need for fresh produce, they launched Piggly Wiggly — starting with a humble trailer selling veggies just meters from the fields.
As demand grew, so did the farm. Rudi and Cindy Kassier followed their passion for food and wine, eventually founding Highgate Wine Estate. In 2016, they bottled their first estate wine, sold exclusively on-site.
Today, their journey continues through the estate’s elegant tasting room, restaurants, and the vibrant Piggly Wiggly village.
